Glossary

Bailment
the delivery of personal property from one person (the bailor) to another (the bailee) in trust for some special purpose, as according to an express or implied contract. 

Consignment

a stock of merchandise advanced to a dealer and located at his place of business, but with title remaining in the source of supply, and also a shipment of goods to a consignee.

Cross-docking

distribution method in which the goods flow in an unbroken sequence from receiving to shipping (dispatching), thus eliminating storage. Also called flow through distribution.

Goods receipt
official document issued by warehouse or shipping terminal operator to acknowledge receipt of items listed in it under customary or specified terms and conditions.

Hand Loading/unloading

hand carrying or moving of freight.

Manual Loading/unloading

manual (or mechanical) carrying or moving of freight with the use of a pallet jack, hand truck or forklift.

Outsized cargo
a single item of cargo, too large for palletization or containerization, that exceeds 1090 inches long by 111 inches wide by 105 inches high. Requires transport by sea or use of a C-5 or C-17 aircraft for transport by air.

Outsized unit load

Shipment

the tender of one lot of cargo at one time from one shipper to one consignee on one bill of lading.

Storage
the service of storing goods or cargo in the warehouse for the period of time specified in the agreement.

Stretch wrapping
pallet packing with stretch film or scotch.

Unit Load
packages loaded on a pallet, in a crate or any other way that enables them to be handled at one time as a unit. L/W/H 120/80/104 sm, properly packed and of the total weight of no more than 1000 kilos.
